Be honest - how often are you grateful for things in your life?
Sure, you might show some gratitude if something really exciting happens or if you're sitting around the table at Thanksgiving dinner. Or, maybe you've taken it one step further and have created a journal where you write down things that you're grateful for. However, if you're like most of us, you don't write in it every single day.
But did you know that a daily dose of gratitude can change your entire life?!
Sadly, most of us are in the habit of thinking negatively. When something difficult or painful comes along, it sends us into a negative spiral where emotions like anger, frustration, resentment, annoyance, disappointment, and boredom reign supreme.
But you don't have to live that way!
Instead, you have the freedom to choose how to feel about things. If you've decided that you're powerless to choose your mindset, you've actually made a choice to be that way. If you don't choose how you're going to react - and, instead, let your experiences dictate how you feel - you're going to wind up on an emotional roller coaster.
So, how do you choose to make gratitude a bigger part of your daily life?
1. Focus on it as much as you can.
Say to yourself, "I choose to be grateful for ___." Then, finish the sentence with anything and everything you can think of. And, as you say the words, be sure to genuinely feel grateful for each thing. Do this frequently enough, and you'll wind up with a whole new attitude!
2. Look for the gratitude in everything.
In all honesty, this can be tough - especially when you're confronted with something sad or scary. However, it's crucial to remember that you can choose to be grateful in every situation. Every time you think about the downside, think about the upside. Then, take a deep breath and focus on the upside. The more often you do this, the easier it will become. Plus, your entire life will seem better because you'll no longer be obsessing over the negatives!
Bottom line - it won't take long for you to see amazing life changes from these two habits. Not only will you feel better about the world around you, you'll notice that your interactions with other people are better. In fact, you'll be surprised by the fact that good things just seem to happen to you all of a sudden. It's all proof that the more positive you are, the more positive everything else will be!
In the book for which he's best known, his classic masterpiece The Science of Getting Rich, Wallace D. Wattles wrote:
"To permit your mind to dwell upon the inferior is to become inferior and to surround yourself with inferior things.
On the other hand, to fix your attention on the best is to surround yourself with the best, and to become the best.
The Creative Power within us makes us into the image of that to which we give our attention.
We are Thinking Substance, and thinking substance always takes the form of that which it thinks about."
Here's my question for you today:
What are you thinking about?
Remember...
"We are Thinking Substance, and thinking substance always takes the form of that which it thinks about."
