No matter who you are or what your goals are, you're going to fail at some point. Even the biggest success stories came with plenty of failure along the way.
Okay, so failure is a part of life. But how do you keep it from destroying your motivation? How do you keep going when there are seemingly insurmountable obstacles in your way?
The answer - it depends.
Unfortunately, there's no one-size-fits-all solution to this situation. Everyone is different, we all face different challenges, and we all have different goals.
One thing we have in common? We've all got to overcome our burdens and move forward. And that means summoning up some inner strength and powering through the pain.
If you're trying to make your motivation soar, ask yourself these 7 questions:
1. "What's causing my obstacles?"
Is there something tangible and physical standing in between you and success? Or is the situation emotional? Are you afraid of something legitimate, or are you suffering from some kind of irrational fear?
Once you figure out exactly what the obstacle is, think about the worst-case scenario. What's the worst that can happen if you don't overcome it? When you think about it that way, you'll probably see that it's not worth all of this stress and fear. In the grand scheme of things, your obstacle probably isn't the end of life as you know it.
2. "Do I truly believe in my goal?"
Running into obstacles can get you so down in the dumps that you forget about the end result. What are you working towards? How will you, your family, or your company benefit when you reach your goal? Most importantly, is your goal worth the struggle?
If you don't absolutely-positively-without-a-doubt believe in your goal, the answer isn't more motivation. Instead, you've got to go back to the starting line. Reassess what you want, and then move forward with it.
3. "What does success look like?"
Visualization is incredibly powerful. Simply closing your eyes and picturing yourself as having overcome your obstacles is one of the most positive things you can do.
Once you've got a clear mental picture, go take action quickly. You may not be able to deal with your obstacle all at once, but don't underestimate the power of small actions. Even a baby step towards your goal is a step in the right direction!
4. "Can I break this down into chunks?"
Speaking of baby steps, a great way to make an obstacle feel less insurmountable is to break your plan of attack into small chunks. That way, there won't be this huge cloud of failure looming over you. Get rid of the big cloud, and you'll be much more capable of handling the challenge.
5. "What can I do to stay positive?"
A cheery optimistic mindset will instantly make your obstacle look smaller. If you refuse to let negative thoughts take over, it'll be much easier to move forward. After all, mind over matter! (Or, in this case, mind over obstacles!)
6. "What inspires me?"
Do you love curling up with a motivational book? Or maybe you could watch some motivational speeches on YouTube. There are even audio courses that can help you feel more motivated.
Just make sure your inner circle inspires you, too. If there are people who drag you down, ask yourself if they're worth keeping in your life. After all, you'll never feel motivated if you're surrounded by negativity!
7. "What choice do I want to make?"
In the end, being happy and motivated is a choice. You can choose to let positivity reign, or you can choose to sink deeper into self-doubt and misery.
When in doubt, remember the wise words of Margaret Thatcher:
"Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's when you've had everything to do, and you've done it."
My best advice when it comes to motivation?
Have a crystal-clear vision that reflects what's truly important to you and what you really want next in your life. When you have that, it'll draw you toward it and it toward you with magnetic power and getting motivated or staying motivated will no longer be an issue for you.
As I've said here before, get your vision right and, in my experience, all the rest will fall into place.

Note: If it seems like I come back to this subject of vision a lot here, it's because I do. I don't know that I can possibly overemphasize its importance. The day I created a next level vision that reflected what was truly important to me and what I really wanted next in my life was the day my life began to turn around, and it began to turn around big time!
